LOCATION.-- Lat 38°19'26", long 89°58'15", in SW1/4SE1/4 sec.27 projected, T.2 S., R.8 W., St. Clair County, Hydrologic Unit 07140204, on left bank at downstream side of bridge on State Highway 156, 2 mi northeast of Hecker, 5 mi west of New Athens, and at mile 17.3.

DRAINAGE AREA.-- 129 mi2.

GAGE.-- Water-stage recorder, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers satellite telemeter and rain gage, phone telemeter, and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 375.00 ft above sea level. June 28, 1976, to Nov. 9, 1978, nonrecording gage at same site and datum.

REMARKS.-- Two sewage-treatment plants 13-16 mi upstream.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--
SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE: Maximum discharge, 23,400 ft3/s, April 29, 1996, gage height, 44.4 ft, from floodmark; minimum daily discharge, 4.2 ft3/s, Oct. 17, 1976.

REMARKS FOR CURRENT YEAR.-- Records fair except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Effluent from two sewage-treatment plants 13-16 mi upstream averaged about 11.8 ft3/s.
